by Yeung Kui Wan, through the Kwong Hing Yuen firm which does a re-

informing him that the casks contained arms, and that his partner

in Canton had been arrested, and asking hia to inform the Polite

and obtain the punishment of the sender.

On the 1st November the Viceroy applied through the Consul

for the extradition of five of the supposed leaders, but

declined

to consider the request as the only offence alleged against then

was of a political nature.
